Singer and songwriter Carly Rae Jepsen released her ninth studio album, Day and Night, on September 18 through Interscope Records.
The project transitions across multiple musical styles, moving from symphonic pop and psychedelia on the daytime portion to dance tracks on the nighttime side. Early singles “On Wires” and “After All” represent the daytime sound, while tracks “Motivation” and “Don’t Leave Me on the Dance Floor” highlight the nighttime section.
Jepsen co-wrote the album focus track, “Versailles,” with Elias Kapari, Noonie Bao, and Markus Krunegård, with Kapari handling production. The song drew inspiration from Sofia Coppola’s film Marie Antoinette.
A music video for “Versailles,” directed by Kanya Iwana, was filmed in Los Angeles to accompany the release.
The Canadian singer first achieved international prominence in 2012 with the single “Call Me Maybe” from her album Kiss. Her catalog includes subsequent full-length releases E•MO•TION, Dedicated, and The Loneliest Time, alongside companion B-side projects E•MO•TION Side B, Dedicated Side B, and The Loveliest Time.
