‘Bridgerton’ star Simone Ashley releases debut EP ‘Songs I Wrote In New York’

Simone Ashley, the internationally acclaimed actress known for her leading roles in “Bridgerton” and “Sex Education,” released her debut EP, “Songs I Wrote In New York,” on Monday via Abbey Road Recordings.
The six-track project marks Ashley’s formal entry into the music industry, though the artist describes the move as a return to her creative roots. Before her acting career garnered global attention, music served as her primary form of expression.
The EP was developed over 18 months in collaboration with Grammy-winning producer Fraser T Smith, whose credits include Adele and Celine Dion. The project also features contributions from prominent songwriters Diane Warren and Amy Wadge.

“I’ve found a confidence in knowing what kind of woman and artist I want to be,” Ashley said in a statement. “Moving to New York City felt like a catalyst in the journey of these songs and the lyrics.”
The lead single, “FREE,” was released today alongside the full EP. Ashley noted the track was written in a single session in Brooklyn and explores themes of hope and newfound freedom. Sonically, the EP blends modern soul-pop and R&B with Latino-inspired rhythms and warm basslines.
The lyrics were inspired by letters Ashley wrote to her future self during her teenage years.
The release comes during a prolific period for the performer. Ashley recently reprised her role as Kate Sharma in the fourth season of “Bridgerton” and is set to star in 20th Century Studios’ “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” alongside Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, which premieres May 1. She was also recently cast in the A24 comedy “Peaked.”
