Big D and the Kids Table announce first album in five years, release new single “Whiplash”

Ska-punk band Big D and the Kids Table will release its 12th studio album, The Good Ole American Saturday Night, marking the group’s first new full-length project in five years.

The album is scheduled for release on June 12 through SideOneDummy Records and reunites the band with producer Joe Gittleman of The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and multi-instrumentalist Matt Appleton of Reel Big Fish.

The band also released the lead single, Whiplash, alongside an official music video. The track reflects the group’s signature high-energy sound, blending punk rhythms with prominent horn arrangements and an anthemic, sing-along style.

Frontman David McWane described the song as inspired by a chaotic personal scenario, turning it into what he called a cathartic and energetic listening experience.

Formed in 1995 at Berklee College of Music, Big D and the Kids Table have remained a consistent presence in the ska-punk scene for more than three decades. Known for their fusion of ska with punk, emo, and hardcore influences, the band has built a reputation for high-energy live performances and extensive international touring.

The upcoming album continues that tradition while expanding the group’s sound. According to McWane, the project emphasizes themes of optimism and connection, offering what he described as an alternative to more cynical trends in contemporary music.

Despite their longevity, the band has maintained an independent approach to their career, focusing on creative freedom and audience connection rather than mainstream success. That philosophy remains central to the new release, which the band describes as both a continuation of its roots and a step forward.

With The Good Ole American Saturday Night and the release of “Whiplash,” Big D and the Kids Table are launching their next chapter with a renewed focus on energy, community, and live performance.
