Critically acclaimed punk band FEA has released its new single “Careful,” marking the group’s first release since signing with the label Cosmica Artists.

The track, which debuted Friday on all major streaming platforms, serves as a personal anthem regarding personal agency and the rejection of emotional conditioning. According to the band, the song was written as a cathartic response to the pressures often placed on women and the LGBTQ+ community to remain quiet in the face of the abuse of power.

“‘Careful’ is our personal anthem—a reminder to speak up and not walk on eggshells for anyone,” the band said in a statement. “Abuse comes in many forms, and conditioning a person is one of them. Writing this song was cathartic, and I hope it helps anyone who’s been through a similar situation.”

Formed in 2015 by bassist Jenn Alva and drummer Phanie Diaz following the dissolution of their previous outfit, Girl in a Coma, FEA has become a leading voice in modern Chicana punk. The San Antonio-based quartet is known for a sound that blends classic punk ferocity with melodic hooks and multilingual lyrics.

The band’s previous work, including the sophomore album No Novelties, was produced by punk pioneer Alice Bag. FEA has earned a reputation for high-energy live performances while touring alongside genre icons such as Against Me!, Babes in Toyland, and Agent Orange. NPR previously described the group as “Latina punk at its finest.”

In coordination with the new single, FEA has announced a series of national tour dates for the remainder of the year. The band indicated that further music and tour announcements are expected in the coming weeks as they begin their tenure with Cosmica Artists.
