America250 announces July 4 Block Party cities, launches 100-day countdown to nation’s 250th anniversary

America250 has launched the official 100-day countdown to the Fourth of July, unveiling the first wave of programming for the nation’s 250th anniversary celebration in 2026.
The organization announced the first five host cities for its nationwide “America’s Block Party” events, scheduled for July 3-4, as part of what it described as the largest synchronized Independence Day celebration in U.S. history.
The initial lineup includes New York City, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and Charleston, South Carolina. Each location will host large-scale public events featuring live music, community gatherings, and patriotic programming.
In New York, the iconic Times Square Ball will drop on July 3 for the first time outside of New Year’s Eve, marking the transition into Independence Day. Other highlights include a major concert at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, a Summerfest celebration along Lake Michigan in Milwaukee, and a large-scale fireworks display in Charleston.
America250 Chair Rosie Rios said the effort is designed to expand the tradition of local block parties into a shared national experience.
“The Fourth of July has long been synonymous with neighborhood block parties — we’re turning up the volume on this beloved tradition by scaling it into a nationwide celebration anchored in live music,” Rios said in a statement.
As part of the initiative, America250 also announced a partnership with iHeartMedia, which will serve as the official audio partner. The collaboration aims to create a unified national listening experience, allowing Americans to tune into a shared soundtrack across radio and digital platforms during the July 3-4 events.
The organization is also encouraging communities nationwide to host their own local block parties, offering digital toolkits and resources through its website.
In addition to the celebrations, America250 introduced “Giving 4th,” a national campaign encouraging charitable donations and volunteerism on Independence Day. Organizers said the goal is to make July 4, 2026, the largest single day of giving in U.S. history.
Music will play a central role in the programming, including a new version of the song “Celebration” by Kool & The Gang, produced as part of the “America’s Soundtrack” initiative led by Emilio Estefan.
Additional events planned for the holiday period include Major League Baseball games across the country, a time capsule ceremony at Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia, and a parade of tall ships in New York Harbor.
America250 was established by Congress to lead the commemoration of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and is coordinating national efforts to mark the semiquincentennial in 2026.
Further details, including additional host cities and event information, are expected to be announced in the coming months.
