Insight Editions has announced “The Fine Art of Rocky: An Artistic Tribute from Screen to Canvas,” a new art book timed to the 50th anniversary of the original “Rocky” film. The film’s theatrical release anniversary is Dec. 3.
The book collects rare and never-before-seen paintings by John Rivoli, the official Rocky artist. Sylvester Stallone wrote the foreword and collaborated with Rivoli on some of the artwork.
It features more than 70 paintings, posters, and other artworks, including large-scale originals that highlight moments from the franchise. The book is part art collection and part analysis of the six Rocky films, and it argues that “Rocky” is an art film worthy of being called a masterpiece.
“This book represents a lifetime of training,” Rivoli said. He added that he hopes readers feel the story in a way they never have before.
A limited edition signed by Rivoli is also available. It comes in a slipcase bound in Svepa leatherette, with a tipped-on image and gold foil debossing. The book inside has an exclusive cover, and the set includes a portfolio of four 16-by-20-inch prints.
Rivoli is an animator, illustrator, and fine artist trained at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and the Istituto Politecnico della Moda in Florence, Italy. His work spans film, television, and animated series. He has been the official artist for MGM’s Rocky franchise since 2019.
