Columbia Records and Legacy Recordings will reissue Miles Davis & John Coltrane – The Complete Columbia Recordings 1955-1961 on November 6. The collection returns to vinyl and CD for the first time in more than 25 years in celebration of both artists’ 2026 centennials.
The expansive set features recordings from their collaborations between 1955 and 1961. Produced by Michael Cuscuna and Bob Belden, the collection won two Grammy Awards for Best Boxset or Limited Edition Package and Best Liner Notes.
The reissue will be available as a 9LP vinyl set and a 6CD set. The vinyl edition includes Mark Wilder’s 2000 remixed and remastered audio cut directly from the analog tapes by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound, packaged with individually designed LP jackets and a 60-page book in a slipcase.
The 6CD version re-configures the 2000 release with six mini-jackets and a 116-page book. Written materials across the sets include essays by producer George Avakian, drummer Jimmy Cobb, critic Bob Blumenthal, and original Kind of Blue liner notes by pianist Bill Evans.
Across 58 total tracks, the collection includes music from albums such as ‘Round About Midnight, Milestones, Jazz at the Plaza, Someday My Prince Will Come, and Kind of Blue. It also features selections from Miles and Monk at Newport, Birth Of The Blue, Basic Miles, and Circle in the Round, along with 18 tracks that were unreleased prior to 2000.
Alongside the complete box set, Columbia and Legacy announced the first vinyl release of The Best Of Miles Davis & John Coltrane (1955-1961). The double-LP collection gathers highlighted tracks from their primary studio album collaborations.
