New Balance has been awarded a supply contract through the Defense Logistics Agency to manufacture athletic footwear for the United States Armed Forces. Beginning in early 2027, the company will supply the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps with its Made in USA 0430 shoe model.
Production of the footwear will take place at the New Balance Central Maine factory located in Skowhegan. The shoes are designated for use by service members during military basic training.
The model name, pronounced zero-four-thirty, references the early morning wake-up schedules required of recruits during military training. Footwear produced under the company’s Made in USA designation maintains a domestic value of 70 percent or higher.
Kevin McCoy, vice president for MADE at New Balance, stated that the contract reflects the company’s commitment to American manufacturing. U.S. Senator Susan Collins also noted that the agreement supports domestic footwear manufacturing and industrial supply chains in Maine.
The contract expands the military’s use of domestically produced equipment for new recruits. Domestic footwear production currently represents a limited portion of total U.S. sales for New Balance.
