The Comfort Cub is donating 1,000 weighted therapeutic bears to families affected by the September 11 terrorist attacks. The donation coincides with the 25th anniversary of 9/11 during events hosted in New York City.
Representatives from the nonprofit organization will assist with distributing the bears to attendees at the VOICES 25th Anniversary NYC Symposium and Commemorative Luncheon. The events are scheduled to take place from September 9 through September 11.
Designed as a mental and emotional health tool, the weighted bear provides deep-touch pressure when held against the chest to help trigger a physical calming response. The therapeutic design aims to address both the physical and emotional symptoms associated with severe grief and trauma.
Marcella Johnson founded The Comfort Cub following the death of her infant son to provide tangible comfort for individuals experiencing loss. The organization developed the weighted bear specifically to support adults and families navigating long-term grief.
The donation initiative partners with the Voices Center for Resilience to reach family members who lost loved ones during the 2001 tragedy. The project brings therapeutic resources directly to participants attending the anniversary memorial program.
