Indie artist Cavetown has released a new single and video, “Sailboat,” a collaboration with singer-songwriter Chloe Moriondo, ahead of his upcoming album Running With Scissors, due Jan. 16.

The track, co-produced by Underscores, blends chiptune flourishes with hyperpop textures to capture the tentative excitement of new love. Built around themes of friendship, vulnerability and the fear of hurting someone you care about, “Sailboat” pairs Cavetown’s intimate songwriting with Moriondo’s warm delivery and Underscores’ glitch-forward production style.

An accompanying video, released alongside the song, places Cavetown — born Robin Skinner — and Moriondo on a quiet beach, drifting between moments of solitude and connection. The dreamlike visuals mirror the song’s emotional tone as the two mime guitar playing and wade into the water, reflecting the balance between closeness and hesitation at the heart of the track.

“Sailboat” offers an early look at Running With Scissors, which marks a new chapter for the trans masc singer-songwriter. The album explores themes of emotional stability, identity and growing up, building on the introspective tone of Cavetown’s earlier work while expanding into new sonic territory.

With more than 3.7 million followers across platforms and billions of streams worldwide, Cavetown has built a devoted audience drawn to his candid storytelling and gentle, lo-fi aesthetic. The forthcoming album aims to blend that familiar intimacy with bolder production choices, signaling one of his most expansive releases to date.
