Hellmann’s has officially named Pennsylvania’s Philly Cheesesteak as America’s Sandwich following a nationwide voting competition. The contest featured regional sandwiches representing all 50 states.
The bracket-style voting event was launched in celebration of America’s 250th birthday to highlight local culinary traditions. Across the country, more than 10,000 participants cast nearly 100,000 votes for their preferred state entries.
After weeks of public voting, the Philly Cheesesteak earned the top position in the national bracket. The winning selection brings the nationwide tournament to a close.
Jessica Grigoriou, SVP of Marketing, Condiments at Unilever North America, stated that the country has official symbols for its bird, flower, and tree, making it time to select an official sandwich. Grigoriou added that Hellmann’s plans to celebrate the winning sandwich using its mayonnaise spread.
The brand announced that additional details regarding the celebration will be shared through Hellmann’s social media channels.
