The bestselling oral history book covering the band Wings, titled “WINGS: The Story of a Band on the Run,” is returning in a new paperback edition. The upcoming release is scheduled for publication on October 6, 2026.
Edited and featuring an introduction by Ted Widmer, the volume relies on over 42 hours of recent and historical interviews drawn from Paul McCartney’s personal archive. In his foreword, McCartney noted that working on the project awakened memories from the era as a generational shift brings renewed focus to the band.
The publication chronicles the band’s history through contributions from members including Paul McCartney, Linda McCartney, Denny Laine, Denny Seiwell, Henry McCullough, Jimmy McCulloch, Geoff Britton, Joe English, Steve Holley, and Laurence Juber. Additional commentary comes from figures such as John Lennon, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, George Martin, Sean Ono Lennon, Chrissie Hynde, Dustin Hoffman, and Twiggy.
The paperback version adds a new conversation between McCartney and Oscar-winning director Morgan Neville recorded around the release of Neville’s documentary, “Paul McCartney: Man on the Run.” In the interview, the two discuss McCartney’s creative period following the breakup of The Beatles.
The volume details the band’s commercial milestones, including selling over 22 million albums and achieving over two million UK single sales with “Mull of Kintyre.” The narrative traces the group’s progression from early university tours to pioneering large-scale arena and stadium concerts.
Beyond text, the book features over 150 photographs, diary entries, handwritten lyrics, and memorabilia. Images in the collection were taken by photographers including Linda McCartney, Mike McCartney, Clive Arrowsmith, Henry Diltz, Robert Ellis, and Paul McCartney, documenting events across locations such as Scotland, New York, Lagos, Japan, and the Virgin Islands.
