The Mountain Goats, consisting of band members John Darnielle, Matt Douglas, and Jon Wurster, have released Days, their 24th full-length studio album. The project is released on the band’s own record label, Cadmean Dawn Records, via Thirty Tigers.
The album was produced by John Congleton and recorded at Sear Sound in Manhattan under the management of Roberta Findlay. Guest contributors on the album include bassist Rob Jost, harpist Mikaela Davis, vocalist Matt Nathanson, and Janis Siegal of The Manhattan Transfer.
John Darnielle developed the songs as a loose reflection on the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, centering on the passage of time and memories. The project originally grew out of an idea for a sequel concept to the group’s previous album, Goths.
The release precedes a global concert tour running through the end of the year in support of the new music. Tour dates feature a six-show residency at The Fillmore in San Francisco, along with concerts at Carnegie Hall in New York and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles.
The tour also includes dates across North America, Europe, and the United Kingdom, following the group’s recent first gold record certification for their song “No Children.” Tickets for all scheduled performances are currently available through the band’s website.
