Outback Steakhouse puts filet mignon in the spotlight for National Filet Mignon Day

Ahead of National Filet Mignon Day on August 13, Outback Steakhouse released findings from its Modern Steakhouse Survey regarding consumer preferences for premium cuts of beef. The research indicates that filet mignon remains the top choice for quality among respondents.

According to the survey, nearly four in 10 Americans rank filet mignon as the most premium steak cut. However, consumer attitudes toward where and when to eat upscale cuts have shifted toward more informal environments.

Data shows that 35 percent of respondents believe steak tastes best at a casual dining restaurant, placing it ahead of fine dining establishments, upscale steakhouses, or home preparation. Additionally, 46 percent view steakhouses through a casual lens, with 32 percent noting that these restaurants have grown more accessible over time.

Quality remains a primary decision driver, with a combined 60 percent of respondents prioritizing tenderness, flavor, and cut quality over price. At the same time, 51 percent state that a high-quality steak dinner should remain affordable, while 31 percent believe superior cuts warrant higher price points.

Frequency of visits is also evolving, as 51 percent of participants would select a steakhouse for an everyday family dinner without a special occasion. Another 39 percent expressed willingness to choose a steakhouse for a casual weeknight meal.
