Singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles has released her latest single, “Still Crying,” alongside an accompanying music video directed by Kimmy Gatewood. Co-written with Aaron Dessner, the track focuses on the repetitive nature of grief. The video features Bareilles alongside her Girls5eva co-star John Lutz.
The song is the second release from her upcoming seventh studio album, Good Grief, which is scheduled for release on August 28. It follows the June release of the single “Home.” The 14-track, self-produced album marks her first studio project since 2019’s Amidst the Chaos.
Recording sessions for the album took place over six days at Dreamland Recording Studios in Woodstock, New York, with additional work completed at Long Pond Studios in the Hudson Valley. The project features contributions from Aaron Dessner, Brandi Carlile, Andrea Gibson, Ingrid Michaelson, Joe Tippett, and Megan Falley.
The creation of the record was documented in the film Sara Bareilles: Good Grief, directed by Josh Alexander, which premiered at the Tribeca Festival. The album also includes “Salt Then Sour Then Sweet,” a track featured in the documentary Come See Me in the Good Light.
Bareilles will support the album release with her Live Nation-promoted Good Grief Tour this fall. The tour begins September 9 in Boston and will make stops at theater venues in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and San Francisco.
