Epiphone has announced the worldwide release of the Alex Lifeson 1976 ES-355 Reissue. Built as part of the Inspired by Gibson Custom series, the instrument recreates the famous Alpine White guitar used by the Rush guitarist. The model is now available through authorized dealers, Gibson Garage locations, and the manufacturer’s website.
The new model features a five-ply semi-hollow body made of maple and poplar layers, along with a solid maple centerblock designed to enhance sustain and minimize feedback. The three-piece maple neck features a 1970s-style volute for structural reinforcement and a Slim C profile. The ebony fretboard is fitted with 22 medium jumbo frets, mother-of-pearl block inlays, and a Graph Tech nut.
For electronics, the guitar is equipped with two United States-made Gibson T-Type humbucker pickups. These are wired to individual volume and tone controls using CTS potentiometers and Mallory capacitors. The instrument also features a six-position mono Varitone switch with a dedicated bypass mini toggle, dual outputs, and a Switchcraft three-way pickup selector.
The hardware on the instrument is finished in gold, including a harmonica-style Tune-O-Matic bridge and a Maestro Vibrola tailpiece. The “open book” headstock features die-cast tuners with keystone buttons, multi-ply binding, and mother-of-pearl logo inlays. Additionally, the truss rod cover is engraved with the guitarist’s name.
Lifeson stated that the original instrument has always been special to him due to its balance of elegance and power. He noted that the new recreation faithfully captures the spirit of the original instrument while offering a fresh feel for players. Each guitar ships in a custom hardshell case featuring a black exterior with a copy of Lifeson’s signature, a red interior, and gold hardware.
Lifeson is a co-founder of the band Rush, a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and an Officer of the Order of Canada. Outside of his work with Rush, his recent musical projects include the alternative rock collective Envy of None. The group released its sophomore album, Stygian Wavz, in 2025 through Kscope, supported by the singles “Not Dead Yet,” “Under the Stars,” and the title track.
The guitarist is scheduled to return to live performances this summer alongside bandmate Geddy Lee for Rush’s Fifty Something Tour. The limited concert run honors the legacy of the band and late drummer Neil Peart, with Anika Nilles joining on drums. The tour itinerary started with dates at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles, with upcoming stops planned for Mexico City, Fort Worth, Chicago, New York, Toronto, and Cleveland, extending into 2027.
