
CBS has scheduled a live three-hour primetime television special titled The Great American Block Party 250 to mark the 250th birthday of the United States. The Independence Day broadcast will air Saturday, July 4, from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM Eastern Time on the CBS Television Network. Digital streaming coverage will also be available simultaneously through Paramount+ and CBS News 24/7.
CBS Evening News anchor Tony Dokoupil and Entertainment Tonight co-host Nischelle Turner will anchor the broadcast live from a location near the Washington Monument. The television special will feature live segments from regional celebration events across the country. Featured locations include Los Angeles, Milwaukee, Charleston, New York, Philadelphia, Mount Rushmore, and Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
The musical lineup for the television special features a selection of national recording artists performing from various locations. Scheduled musical guests include Zac Brown Band, Jon Batiste, Goo Goo Dolls, and The War and Treaty. Production organizers plan to announce additional musical performers prior to the broadcast date.
The holiday television programming will also feature the official opening of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library located in Medora, North Dakota. The live event coverage will conclude with a Washington, D.C. fireworks demonstration. Organizers are describing the pyrotechnics display as the largest fireworks show in history.
Leading up to the primetime special, the network will originate multiple news broadcasts from Washington, D.C. Both CBS Mornings and the CBS Evening News with Tony Dokoupil will broadcast live from the nation’s capital on Friday, July 3. The morning news programming will continue from the site with a live edition of CBS Saturday Morning on Saturday, July 4.
