Tank and the Bangas release new song ‘No Invite’ ahead of May album debut

Grammy-winning group Tank and the Bangas debuted a new song, “No Invite,” and an accompanying music video on Tuesday. The track is the second release from their upcoming album, “The Last Balloon,” scheduled for release May 15 via Verve Forecast.

The new album follows the group’s previous projects, “Green Balloon” (2019) and “Red Balloon” (2022). Lead singer Tarriona “Tank” Ball described the project as the final installment of the trilogy.

“I called the album ‘The Last Balloon’ because I didn’t want anyone asking us, ‘When’s Purple Balloon coming?’” Ball said. “It’s the end of the balloons; we’re moving into a new space now.”

“The Last Balloon” was executive-produced by Austin Brown and recorded primarily at The Complex Studios in Los Angeles. The album features collaborations with soul singers Ledisi and Jelly Joseph, as well as musician Iman Omari and pianist Tane Runo.

The project follows the band’s 2024 Grammy win for “Best Spoken Word Poetry Album” for their three-part project, “The Heart, The Mind, The Soul.” Ball noted that the band is continuing to evolve their sound while focusing on the emotional impact of their music.

“What we’ve learned over the years is that even though people can’t always categorize our sound, they’re always able to describe how the music makes them feel,” Ball said.

In support of the new release, the band has expanded their summer and fall tour schedule. Upcoming stops include New York City, Boston, Detroit, Washington, D.C., Asheville, and Pittsburgh.

Since winning the NPR Music Tiny Desk Contest in 2017, the New Orleans-based band has performed on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and at festivals including Coachella and Glastonbury. The current lineup features Ball and multi-instrumentalist Norman Spencer II, joined by Deven Trusclair, Kenaniah Turner, Rob Kellner, and Etienne Stoufflet.

“The Last Balloon” is currently available for pre-order/pre-save.
