Deadliest Catch returns in May on the Discovery Channel

The Emmy-nominated series “Deadliest Catch” is scheduled to return for a new season on Friday, May 8, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Discovery Channel. The upcoming season follows the crab fishing fleet as it relocates 225 miles north to St. George Island to pursue a new population of king crab.

The relocation marks the first time in decades that the captains have abandoned their familiar fishing grounds. This move into the frozen waters of the far North presents the fleet with colder weather and more extreme sea conditions as they attempt to catch a rare and valuable breed of Red King Crab.

In a series first, Captain Sig Hansen will utilize an underwater drone on a covert scouting mission to locate the crab before the rest of the fleet. He is joined by Captain Wild Bill Wichrowski, who travels to St. George Island to provide guidance on the new fishing grounds based on his decades of experience.

The season also follows Captain Jake Anderson, who begins the year as a deckhand for the first time in 11 years after the loss of his boat and his marriage. Anderson later receives an opportunity to return to a leadership role by restoring the “Cornelia Marie,” a move that puts his reputation and family’s future at stake.

Produced by Original Productions, a Fremantle company, “Deadliest Catch” has earned 63 Emmy nominations over its history. Viewers can follow updates and join the conversation regarding the new season on social media using the hashtag #DeadliestCatch.
