Iconic Henson workshop extends behind-the-scenes access for fans

The Jim Henson Company has expanded the schedule for its weekly tour of Jim Henson’s Creature Shop in New York City, adding dates from June through September 2026. The move comes in response to high demand for the tours, which launched earlier this year to showcase the artistry behind world-famous animatronic and puppet characters.
The tour provides a rare look at the original and longest-running home of the Henson workshop. Participants are guided through the creative hub that developed characters for productions ranging from “The Dark Crystal” to recent work on “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.” The Shop is a past recipient of multiple Emmy Awards and an Academy Award for visual effects.
Beyond the workshop tour, the experience includes specialized demonstrations of the “Henson style” of puppetry and digital performance technology. To celebrate Jim Henson’s upcoming 90th birthday, the company is rotating new items into the display, including gems from the archives that haven’t been seen in previous tour cycles.
The program is part of a broader initiative by The Jim Henson Company to offer live theater and in-person experiences. Tours are limited to Saturdays and can be booked online. The shop continues to provide characters for global industries, with a portfolio that includes partnerships with artists like Coldplay and Lady Gaga, and commercial clients such as Topgolf and General Mills.
