The motion picture Mortal Kombat II from New Line Cinema will make its exclusive global streaming debut on Friday, July 24, on HBO Max. Following the streaming launch, the film is scheduled to broadcast on the HBO linear cable channel on Saturday, July 25, at 8:00 p.m. ET.
The ensemble cast features Karl Urban, Adeline Rudolph, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, and Mehcad Brooks. Additional cast members include Tati Gabrielle, Lewis Tan, Damon Herriman, Chin Han, Tadanobu Asano, Joe Taslim, and Hiroyuki Sanada.
An alternative version of the film featuring American Sign Language (ASL) will also become available on the streaming platform on the same day. The specialized edition is performed by ASL dubber Justin Perez and directed by Rosa Lee Timm.
The ASL production incorporates Visual Vernacular, an expressive sign language style that blends traditional ASL, mime, facial expressions, and body movements to narrate highly visual storylines. The film’s plot chronicles a battle involving classic champions and the character Johnny Cage as they oppose the rule of Shao Kahn to protect Earthrealm.
Simon McQuoid directed the feature film based on a screenplay written by Jeremy Slater, drawing from the original video game property created by Ed Boon and John Tobias. The cinematic project was produced by Todd Garner, E. Bennett Walsh, James Wan, Toby Emmerich, and Simon McQuoid, alongside executive producers Michael Clear, Judson Scott, and Lawrence Kasanoff.
