Four iconic artifacts from Michael Jackson’s career are heading to the auction block during Julien’s Auctions‘ Michael Jackson: The Fashion Legacy Evening Auction. The event takes place on December 7 at the Rosewood Abu Dhabi as part of Julien’s inaugural Celebrity and Pop Culture Experience.
The collection is led by Jackson’s original black and candy-red leather jacket worn during the production of the 1983 Thriller music video. Designed by Deborah Nadoolman Landis, it is one of only two jackets created for the video and the sole piece worn by Jackson in non-zombie scenes.
Additional items up for bid include the rhinestone-studded glove worn during his landmark Motown 25 performance, which carries an estimated value between $600,000 and $800,000. Collectors will also have the opportunity to acquire the black Florsheim loafers worn during rehearsals where he first debuted the Moonwalk, estimated between $60,000 and $80,000.
The offering is rounded out by the black leather Florsheim loafers Jackson wore during Thriller filming and rehearsals, accompanied by a signed letter addressed to choreographer Michael Peters. The Motown 25 glove is returning to the market for the first time since Julien’s sold it in 2009 for a then-record-breaking $430,000.
The four items were publicly unveiled on October 7 at Julien’s Auctions in Los Angeles before embarking on international preview exhibitions across the United States, Japan, Bahrain, and Abu Dhabi. The broader December event runs from December 7 through December 9, featuring dedicated auctions, exhibitions, and cultural programming for music and pop culture legends.
