The indie pop duo Chess Club has released its latest single titled “Wedding of the Year.” The track features musical influences from indie pop and funk genres, incorporating string arrangements, piano rhythms, and a guitar performance by session player Mark Lettieri.
Saxophonist John Waugh of the band The 1975 performs a featured solo on the track. According to the duo, the composition and instrumentation were inspired by the wedding music of Christina Perri, Sara Bareilles, and the Vitamin String Quartet.
An official music video written and directed by band member Adam Chase accompanies the single. Filmed by cinematographer Mike Gentilini Jr., the video features band member Danny Darress in a storyline that draws from romantic comedy themes.
Formed in 2023 by Chase on drums and Darress on keys and vocals, the songwriting partnership began at a restaurant located in either Ohio or Michigan. The duo is currently preparing for the release of an upcoming debut studio album.
The forthcoming record will include collaborative tracks featuring guest artists such as GaTa, Isaiah Sharkey, Yesseh Furaha-Ali, and Cory Wong. Listeners can currently find the band’s music catalog on digital platforms including Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and Bandcamp.
