Broken Yolk Cafe voted best breakfast and brunch in San Diego reader poll

Known for its scratch-made ingredients, generous portion sizes, and inviting atmosphere, Broken Yolk Café is a leading franchise in the restaurant industry’s breakfast and lunch category.

Broken Yolk Cafe has been voted the top destination for Best Breakfast and Best Brunch in The San Diego Union-Tribune’s 2026 Reader’s Poll. The recognition comes as the San Diego-based restaurant brand marks 47 years in operation.

Founded in 1979 in the Pacific Beach neighborhood of San Diego, the company has expanded from its original location near the beach into a regional chain. The brand currently operates 15 locations across San Diego County and 42 total locations overall.

The restaurant features a menu of traditional breakfast items alongside signature brunch dishes. Owner John Gelastopoulos noted that both classic menu items and newer offerings have contributed to the brand’s ongoing local presence.

In addition to its local recognition, Broken Yolk Cafe announced plans for regional expansion into the Midwest. The company signed a two-unit development agreement with multi-unit operator Marc Clapper to open its first Indiana locations in Lafayette.

The upcoming Lafayette storefronts will mark the brand’s official entrance into the state of Indiana. Additional details regarding opening dates for the new Midwest locations have not yet been released.
