Sled dogs, sock hockey and hands-on science will headline Winter Sports at the Liberty Science Center (LSC) this weekend, offering families a high-energy mix of live demonstrations and interactive learning from Jan. 17–19.

The event kicks off with appearances by sled dogs from Odin Eye Canines, who will star in live shows several times each day. Team USA Dryland Mushing member Alex Crossett will demonstrate with her six-dog team, sharing the history of the sport, the equipment mushers use and what it takes to train canine athletes. Sled dog presentations are scheduled for 11:45 a.m., 1:15 p.m., 2:45 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. daily.

Visitors can also try their hand at curling on a new non-ice curling lane and learn the spinning techniques that keep figure skaters steady. LSC’s own animal ambassadors will showcase their athletic abilities in live shows throughout the day, adding a playful twist to the weekend’s sports theme.

Science is at the heart of the festivities, with a hands-on lab exploring the physics of ski jumping and a live “Winter Olympics Sportacular” show breaking down the concepts behind curling, luge and cross-country skiing. The Sock Skating rink will transform into a Sock Hockey rink for the weekend, inviting guests to test their slapshots in a safe, indoor setting.

Rounding out the experience, the Snowflake Express train ride will take riders through a sporty winter wonderland. The ride is $5 for the public and $3 for members.

With a blend of athletic thrills and STEM learning, Winter Sports at LSC promises a weekend where sled dogs, skating and science come together for cold-weather fun.
