With her new album Canopy, singer-songwriter Rachael Sage invites listeners into a world of compassion, healing and resilience. The 14-track collection, released on MPress Records, blends folk-pop warmth with poetic introspection, reaffirming Sage’s reputation as one of independent music’s most thoughtful and fearless voices.
Described by Sage as her “most honest and inclusive record yet,” Canopy was inspired by her own experiences of renewal and rediscovery. “These songs are among the most personal I’ve ever written,” Sage said. “It very quickly formed an image of an entire album focused on inclusiveness, acceptance, safety and empathy.”
Musically, Canopy is rich with color and collaboration. Produced by Sage alongside GRAMMY-nominated engineer Mikhail Pivovarov, the album features contributions from Kelly Halloran of the Goo Goo Dolls, Trina Hamlin (Susan Werner), and Ward Williams (Sara Bareilles). GRAMMY-winner Andy Zulla assisted with mixing, lending a luminous polish to Sage’s layered arrangements of piano, strings and subtle percussion.
Tracks such as “Colorized World,” “Underneath,” and the title song weave a sonic tapestry of hope and connection, while “Live It Up” bursts with celebratory energy. The result is a record that feels both deeply personal and universally comforting — a musical canopy under which listeners might find shelter from the chaos of the outside world.
A multidisciplinary artist, Sage is also known for her activism and visual work, often creating her own album art. With Canopy, she extends her creative mission to promote empathy through art, blending her background in music, dance, and design into one cohesive expression. It’s a project that reflects not just her craft, but her conviction that creativity can foster understanding and healing.
Canopy is available now on MPress Records in digital, CD, and vinyl formats. More information can be found at rachaelsage.com.
