Icona Pop releases new single “Butterfly Feelings” ahead of upcoming album
The electronic pop duo Icona Pop has released a new single titled “Butterfly Feelings.” The track is the latest preview from their upcoming studio album, Ritual, which is scheduled to arrive on August 14.
The song is out now through Ultra Records and Iconic Sound Recordings. Co-written by band members Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo, the track combines futuristic synthesizers and pop melodies with a club-focused rhythm.
“’Butterfly Feelings’ is a little song about falling stupidly in love,” the duo said in a statement about the track. “We were thinking of all the times when we had that feeling. You try to deny it in the beginning, but you can’t stop thinking about this person.”
The single serves as a follow-up to the group’s previous releases, “Dance To This” and the album’s title track, “Ritual,” which featured the artist Daya.
The upcoming album focuses on themes of friendship, healing, heartbreak, and motherhood. The project follows a period of personal transition for both artists, who originally started their careers in the Stockholm club scene before achieving global recognition.
“Healing requires you to slow down and reflect, but you can’t work on yourself 24/7 forever,” the duo stated regarding the album’s core themes. “Eventually, you have to get back out into the world and see what happens.”
Icona Pop previously achieved widespread commercial success with their 2012 breakout single “I Love It” featuring Charli XCX, which sold over 10 million copies globally. Ritual marks their latest full-length project following the 2023 release of CLUB ROMANTECH, which was their first album in a decade.
