Multi-platinum rock band Shinedown released their highly anticipated new single, “Searchlight,” on Friday, marking the latest chapter in a record-breaking year for the group. The song debuted live last month during the band’s first performance at the Grand Ole Opry, where fans packed the venue to witness the premiere.
“Searchlight is a song about owning your true feelings,” frontman Brent Smith said. “It’s an awakening of the soul. Lyrically it is a coming-of-age story that celebrates the moment you decide to go out into the world, and find your purpose.”
Written by Smith, Eric Bass and Dave Bassett, and produced by Bass at Big Animal Studio in Charleston, S.C., the song blends Shinedown’s signature rock sound with elements of Americana, rhythm and blues, bluegrass and outlaw country. The accompanying music video, shot in Nashville, features the band performing on steel pedal guitar, banjo, and other instruments, emphasizing the song’s live and emotional energy.
The release follows a landmark year for the band, which includes multiple number-one songs on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart, sold-out arenas including Madison Square Garden, and multiple iHeartRadio Awards. Earlier this year, the band donated $1 from every ticket sold on their Dance, Kid, Dance arena tour to Musicians On Call, totaling $300,000 to support bedside music programs for hospitalized patients.
Shinedown recently announced their first-ever curated festival, Lunatic Ball Beach Weekend, scheduled for Oct. 23-25, 2026, in Miramar Beach, Florida. The three-day event will feature two headlining sets from Shinedown, along with performances by BUSH, Hanson, Flyleaf with Lacey Sturm, Living Colour and more.
