Charlie Puth has released his new single, “Beat Yourself Up,” offering a deeply personal preview of his forthcoming studio album, Whatever’s Clever!, set for release March 27.

The track, co-produced by Puth and BLOODPOP, reflects the artist’s most introspective and emotionally candid work to date. Built around themes of self-compassion and perseverance, “Beat Yourself Up” began as a message to a close friend but evolved into a broader reflection on Puth’s own experiences and the pressures many people place on themselves.

“‘Beat Yourself Up’ started as something I wanted to tell a friend,” Puth said. “We’ve never been the heart-to-heart types, so I wrote it in a song instead. I wanted to tell him that even though he has made mistakes along the way, he shouldn’t be so hard on himself. That things will get better and he’s not alone.” He added that while writing the song, he realized its message applied to himself and others who struggle with self-criticism. “It’s a message to keep going and be kinder to yourself,” he said.

“Beat Yourself Up” continues to set the tone for Whatever’s Clever!, which Puth has described as his most personal and explorative era yet. The album follows a career that has seen the multi-platinum, award-winning artist establish himself as one of pop music’s most accomplished singer-songwriters and producers.

The release also comes as Puth prepares for his largest world tour to date, with arena shows scheduled across the globe later this year, further cementing his status as an international touring draw.

Whatever’s Clever! is available for pre-order now, with “Beat Yourself Up” streaming on all major digital platforms.
